Official syntax checks

How to link to a specific time on YouTube

Paste a watch, Shorts, embed, mobile, or youtu.be URL and enter the time. TubeRank extracts the video ID locally and creates standard watch, short, and embed links with the correct start value in seconds. The tool does not fetch, download, or modify the video.

How to add chapters to a YouTube description

Write each timestamp followed by a clear chapter title. Start at 00:00, keep timestamps in chronological order, include at least three chapters, and leave at least ten seconds between them. Copy the validated block into the video description. YouTube controls whether chapters appear and may apply additional eligibility or content rules.

Why YouTube timestamps may not work

  • The first chapter does not start at 00:00.
  • There are fewer than three chapter timestamps.
  • A chapter is shorter than ten seconds or timestamps are out of order.
  • The URL is not a supported YouTube video URL.
  • The timestamp is longer than the video itself; TubeRank cannot check duration without loading video data.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work with YouTube Shorts?

The link formatter accepts standard Shorts URLs. Chapter display is controlled by YouTube and is mainly intended for longer videos.

Can I use hours in a timestamp?

Yes. Enter hours, minutes, and seconds; TubeRank converts the time to the total seconds used in share and embed links.

Does TubeRank watch or upload the video?

No. URL parsing and chapter validation run in your browser. No video file is downloaded.

How a YouTube timestamp link is created

The generator converts hours, minutes, and seconds into a total number of seconds, then adds the appropriate start-time parameter to the YouTube URL. Opening the result should begin playback near the selected moment.

Worked example

A timestamp of 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 30 seconds equals 3,750 seconds: 1 Γ— 3,600 + 2 Γ— 60 + 30. The generated link adds that start position to the video address. Use the preview to confirm that the link opens the correct video and moment.

How to use it

  1. Paste a valid public YouTube video URL.
  2. Enter a non-negative time that exists within the video.
  3. Generate the link, open the preview, and verify the starting point.
  4. Add context when sharing so the recipient knows why the moment matters.

Limits

The link cannot make a private, removed, restricted, or region-blocked video available. Livestream behavior can differ from normal uploads, and the exact start may vary slightly because of player loading or keyframes. YouTube explains sharing from a selected start time in its official sharing guide. For a website player, use the Embed Code Generator.
